To Kill A Mockingbird is set in an Alabama town in the 1930's that is steeped in racism. That racism is extremely evident throughout the novel. Many people today argue that racism still exists. Without making broad generalizations and being careful not to use derogatory language, discuss the issues of racism in To Kill A Mockingbird and how those issues have transformed, remained the same, or completely vanished. If you believe that racism still exists, what can you do to help alleviate the problem? Please consider your comments carefully before posting and realize that an issue as serious and complicated as racism probably can't fully be answered in a discussion board post, so just give it your best shot!

i personally still think the racism is running wild throughout the cities of America. as many of us see in the news police officers are being killed, and hunted for trying to protect innocent civilians. the Black Lives Matter movement is becoming a serious problem in the U.S. with violence being their solution. some of these similarities tether in with "To Kill A Mockingbird" as racism is becoming a serious problem in the small little town. One straw that broke the camels back was when a black man was convicted of a crime which was nearly impossible for him to do, nevertheless he was convicted. while being transported to prison the black man refused to stop and was accidentally shot in the head, killing him instantly. As you may see, white cops are being put into dangerous situations with people dogging on them for doing what they must do. to uphold the law and keep civilians safe from those who want to do harm.

In to kill a MockingBird, racism was everywhere. The African Americans were forced to live in different places than there white counter parts and sit in the upper part of the court house where it was terribly hot. If Tom Robinson had been white, he would have most likely had a fair trial. Thankfully today there is little to no racism in the courts, but many people think racism still exists from the police. I think it is terrible when people are killed by police but it only makes the news when an African American is killed. To stop the current problems of racism I think one of the biggest things we can do is change the mind set people have about each other. we need to push harder for equal rights.

In "To Kill A Mockingbird" the issue of racism was very much active. No African American could go about there daily life easily. Racism is not as much as an issue as it was back in the 1930's. But, people can still be prejudice and racist even today. Honestly, the only thing we can do is pray that those who still have racist thoughts will become less prejudice and proud. And that they will realize that we are all equal now.

Racism is a very prevalent in our society and the book. Racism is a hatred or disliking of another race. The most common is racism is towards black people and towards Wight people. I believe that has to do some with slavery in the past. I think that if people would forget the past and look to the future they would have a happier life and inspire the future generations. The thing I can do to help eliminate racism is to be an example in that I should never be even the least bit racist to anyone

In to Kill a Mockingbird Atticus Finch was trying to defend an innocent African and the whole trial was unfair and racist. The problem of racism is still in America with all of the protests we need someone to make both sidescalm down and start to like each other. Prejudice is still around and many people still judge others by the color of their skin.

In the 1930s the African Americans were slaves for the Americans. Now they live freely throughout our country. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird the main character's dad Atticus is defending a slave for doing something to the Ewell's daughter. African Americans during this time had to work for the Americans, today they don't have to work for them. When Atticus was planning his case for Tom Robinson everyone said he loved them.I believe Atticus was not offended by what everyone said about him because he would still fight for him. Today the African Americans still believe that they don't have as many rights as Americans. Now the African Americans get special job offers because of there race. I believe if we just had everything equal no matter the race there would be less arguments over who has more rights. What I think I can do to help is pray for everyone and try to think how to make everything seem fair for both.

In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird racism is very evident throughout the whole book and causes many conflicts among the people within the town. Although it has been suppressed it has not ended. People today still discriminate African Americans over their skin color and that is wrong. With all the shootings of whites and blacks it is clear that it is a growing problem that needs to end. A lot of the commotion comes from the past, and although our history is important sometimes we need to remember that our country has changed since then. As a country we need to create peace with each other no matter who we are or what color our skin is.

In To Kill A Mockingbird, racism was very widespread in the community. Jem and Scout don't understand why everyone has a bad view of Tom Robinson because they are kids and haven't been exposed to the lack of respect for African Americans in that time. I believe racism still exists today to a strong extent against every race and is more widely recognized as a problem in America today. To stop the issue of racism, everyone no matter what race would have to stop caring so much about what people look like and take into account how different people act individually. In my everyday life the most effective thing to stop racism that i can do is just to be nice to everyone and ignore what color someones skin is or what accent they have. If everyone could be unified together then racism could be controlled, but at this point in time it is still an issue among a lot of Americans.

There has been racism everywhere in the world for thousands of years with slavery. It may not seem like it but racism didn't really stop until the 1950's. With "To Kill a Mockingbird" taking place in the 1930's, racist comments were around every corner. With Scout's father defending a black, he also had these racist comments thrown at him. Knowing that the book took place only a few years before a big movement to stop racism, the 1930's was pretty well at the heat of this problem. Even though there are still some racist people, there will always and forever be some racist people. The only thing we as Christians can do to try and stop it is hope and pray that one day it will end.

Many people did not have the respect they should have had for the African Americans around that time period. In To Kill A Mocking Bird you could tell there were few people who treated the African Americans with some respect. For example the Finch family treated Culpurnia with a decent amount of respect. As the years grew on I believe racism slowly began to disappear. Although there are still some people today who are racists but this percentage of people is very low. Today we live in a society of freedom and most people believe that everybody is created equal in Gods eyes so there is no need to start a protests because most of the time everyone is treated the same. While yes there are some incident its no need to start a huge thing that could end badly for a lot of people. In order to help with these situations I treat everybody the same because we are all Gods people and when you look at the anatomy of a person on the inside we are all the same.

In To Kill A Mockingbird many people made fun of Scout and Jem for having a father that defended black people. They always got upset about it and tried to defend Atticus even though he said dont bother to reply to anyone who says anything rude. This is still an issue today. There are reports of, say, a black policemen shooting at a white person and the media and people go balistic and say how that's being rascist and unfair to the oppisite skin color. I don't think people have much to say for someone defening the oppisite skin color, in fact, i think many people nowadays support defending whoever needs it no matter the skin tone. I don't personally think rasicm will ever vanish just because most everyone is baised and just because someone looks or act different or comes from a different country than themselves will become angry because the person is getting treated differently than they want them to be treated. Also because people are so stubborn I think there won't be much we can do for oppisite skin colors to get along if they don't want to. I think everyone should be treated the same. A person shouldn't be killed just because you don't like what they look like.

In To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus was defending a African person for harming an American person, and all the Americans in the court wanted him in prison just because the color of his skin. To me personally I think that racism completely vanished at one point, but then later on throughout the years it has came back and especially today in time it has gotten worse now with the black lives matter and with the policemen. To actually be able to try and stop racism I want open peoples eyes and show them that we are all created the same, that we live and do things the same ways as everyone else. Of course you'll have some people still fighting against everything you say. I mean to me I would say about 65%-70% of African and Americans work together refusing to believe that just because they are a different race that they cant work together because it's racist that would mean about 35%-30% of this world thinks that everything people say to stop racism is racist. That just gets me mad when you have people like that because there are good people in the world that try to be friendly to others and they can it racist. I want to show everyone that everyone lives, breathes, sleeps, and eats, the same to stop this mess, there hasn't really been a way for someone to actually be able to explain that were all the same yet because all everyone does is fight against it and ruin it for everyone else.
Sorry for expressing my feelings a little to much in this post but that's how I feel about it.

Racism was a huge problem in To Kill A Mocking Bird. The African Americans were forced to live in other places then white people. They were accused of doing crimes that there was no way for them to do. It was typical 1930 segregation. Yes, racism is still a huge problem today. Most people think that white people are huge racists, but whenever you watch the news and you never see how a black person shoots a white person or when a white person shoots a cop or when a white cop shoots a white person. It is a proven fact that more whites are shot a year than blacks, more Hispanics are shot a year than blacks. There are racists cops and racists whites, there is no denying that. But there is no avoiding the fact that there are racists blacks too. Racism is a huge problem and it comes from all races and is against all races and it needs to stop. We can stop it just by being nice to people no matter what race they are and leave race out of it. we are all the same in the eyes of god, white or black.
